Time
It can take about two months to get a horse totally saddle broke. The horses I am working with right now I am going to use for trail horses if they have good manners. A horse can have bad manners in pulling on the reins, side stepping, playing with there bridle, and just not obeying the commands they are given. To get rid of these bad manners you would just have to work with the horse and try and train them not to do the things they shouldn't be doing. Pulling on the bridle when they are trying to play with the reins usually helps a lot to get them to stop. When it comes to side stepping you just have to slowly and gradually work with them and ride them a lot so they get used to not doing it. Working with your horse just helps the manners get better. Starting your horse out at the age of about two in a half to three years old would be the best to start teaching manners.

i have a 14 year old quarter horse and when she was getting broke she had alot of bad manners. it took my grandad almost a year to break her of this. now she is just really tame and laid back so just hang in there everything will be okay.:]
ReplyDeletesounds very difficult but you seem to have a lot patience
ReplyDeleteHorse training sounds difficult and time consuming. Do want to make this your career?
ReplyDeleteWhat kinds of things do train horses do? Is that like having people pay for an afternoon to take a horse out on a trail ride? Or do is it for ranch work? Do you ever give lessons to people learning how to ride?
